Diane Receives Cap and Pin
August 7, 2003
from Wallace Community College at the completion of the
Piratical Nursing Program |
|

|
The Capping Ceremony is a
tradition of nursing programs throughout the United States and abroad.
During the ceremony, students speak about the ideals of the nursing
profession and recall the compassionate and heroic service of nursing
pioneers, such as Florence Nightingale.
It is believed that nurses'
caps date to the days when women wore caps all of the time, even in
their homes. Whatever their origin, nursing caps - like uniforms - are
unique to each school. |
 |
The Pinning ceremony is a
formal event marking the completion of the Nursing Program. The
nursing pin like the cap is unique to each school but often symbolizes
more than the emblems of the educational institution. |
 |
The Candle Lighting symbolizes
the passing of Knowledge and Light by Senior Faculty members to the new
recruits in Nursing. It is a function initiating them into the Nursing
Profession by Lighting a Candle that dispels darkness and by taking The
Pledge. The Graduation ceremony is to felicitate our Graduates and wish
them success in their Profession. |
|
The Pledge |
I solemnly pledge myself before
God and in the presence of this assembly to faithfully practice my
profession faithfully. I will not take or knowingly administer any
harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain the highest standards
of my profession. I will hold in confidence all personal matters and
family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling.
I will endeavor to aid physicians in their work and devote myself to
the welfare of those committed to my care. |

The Capping and Pinning Ceremony is a special time to celebrate with
faculty, family, friends, and fellow students.
